Just like any other cars, Toyota has a rich history of discontinued car models. The company as at now has about 31 discontinued model cars . The reasons for discontinuing some of these wonderful models are different . Some of this reasons are the failure of some models to fit in the market, having poor sales. Surprisely, some of these cars are favorites of many auto lovers especially in Nigeria too. In this article, we highlight 10 different discontinued Toyota Cars by it’s Maker.

(1). Toyota Hilux single cab.

The Toyota Hilux is one of the best pickup-truck in the world. It derived its name based on its reliability and endurance. Despite its abilities to climb and haul and tow, it still had a big flaw, the car’s slow engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission whereas the other competing manufacturers offered up to 8-speed automatic transmission.

In the exterior, the Toyota HiLux made use of a new front fascial to make the model look more fashionable. But the single cab version was not about fashion. It was more about robustness and workability as a true workhorse. But the Toyota company said that it is perfectly alright to look good on the job with a pickup truck.

In the interior, there are only two seats and some space to store the hi-lift and some tools and equipment. It had more trim levels, and the top has a 7″ infotainment unit with navigation and a backup camera. Also it had two generation of its model. (2). Toyota Matrix

Many have considered that it looks odd that the Toyota Matrix was among the discontinued Toyota cars. It was a better-looking car compared to the Toyota Corolla in my personal opinion. The Toyota Matrix was launched in the late 2007 at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Los Angeles and sales started in 2008 as a 2009 model year .This car model brought about the Sport-Wagon . A Sport-Wagon according to the name is like a station-wagon but has a different touch and feel. The matrix spanned two generations from 2003 to 2008, then from 2009 to 2014. It has a better improved suspension and acceleration and it is more fun to drive than the Corolla. Later, Toyota replaced Matrix with the Corolla hatchback.

Although it might be a bit bigger than the smart fortwo, the Toyota iQ model was originally and especially designed to compete with the German car, the rivalry is suggested by their names. The Toyota iQ is the world’s first car with a rear window airbag, which deploys from the roof lining behind the rear seats in case of a rear-end collision. It spanned for one generation it’s engine made use of Gasoline and Diesel depending on your choice.

Inside, it has a room for five passengers, but the middle seat on the rear bench didn’t have enough legroom due to the transmission tunnel.

Despite the great looks and powerful engines of the Toyota Venza, there is always flaw by unknown classification and this affects buyers choices and its rivals were SUVs like Ford “Edge” and Nissan “Murano”. This made Toyota to stop the production in 2015. But this car is still a favorite in Nigeria because it offers something different from the Toyota Camry.

The Toyota FJ Cruiser comes with a nice-looking retro-styled body, two tone body finish, a capable engine, body-on-frame construction and sturdy mechanics, making for a true off-roader.

The great minivan Previa was Toyota’s attempt into the minivan market and although it was successful, it was discontinued in North America. In 1997, it was replaced with the Sienna we all know.
