Toyota Car production company is actually one of the largest car maker in the world, bigger than Ford, GM and anyone else. It is owned by a Japanese company. Another name for Toyota is Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki-gaisha according to the Japanese founder.
Just like any other cars, Toyota has a rich history of discontinued car models. The company as at now has about 31 discontinued model cars . The reasons for discontinuing some of these wonderful models are different . Some of this reasons are the failure of some models to fit in the market, having poor sales. Surprisely, some of these cars are favorites of many auto lovers especially in Nigeria too. In this article, we highlight 10 different discontinued Toyota Cars by it’s Maker.
(1). Toyota Hilux single cab.
The Toyota Hilux is one of the best pickup-truck in the world. It derived its name based on its reliability and endurance. Despite its abilities to climb and haul and tow, it still had a big flaw, the car’s slow engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission whereas the other competing manufacturers offered up to 8-speed automatic transmission.
In the exterior, the Toyota HiLux made use of a new front fascial to make the model look more fashionable. But the single cab version was not about fashion. It was more about robustness and workability as a true workhorse. But the Toyota company said that it is perfectly alright to look good on the job with a pickup truck.
In the interior, there are only two seats and some space to store the hi-lift and some tools and equipment. It had more trim levels, and the top has a 7″ infotainment unit with navigation and a backup camera. Also it had two generation of its model. The most noticeable stylistic change can be seen up front where a new bumper, grille, and headlights replaced the old ones. New rims and a special shade o blue has been added to the range. The 2015 Toyota Auris have some benefits and Improvement starting from suspension and steering revisions designed to improve ride comfort, handling and driver involvement. Before the advent of the Verso lineup, there was the Picnic, it was an average-sized minivan that seats 6 passengers. It debuted in 1995 and was sold across Europe. Some models came to Nigeria and some local transporters are still using it up till now. Also ,Toyota Picnic is also known as Toyota Avensis Verso, Toyota Ipsum and Toyota SportsVan, is a medium MPV which was first introduced by the Japanese company in 1997. This seven-seater vehicle was available in multiple engine versions, powered by both gasoline and diesel.

The FJ Cruiser is an SUV , a retro, off-road machine that debuted in the U.S. in 2003 as a salute to the classic Toyota FJ Land Cruisers. Sales began to plummet after the great recession, and Toyota pulled the vehicle out of the U.S. entirely after the 2014 model year. Sold in the US from 1960 to 1983, the Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser remains a very respectable off-road vehicle, which also survives these days through the FJ Cruiser nameplate. The Toyota FJ Cruiser comes with a nice-looking retro-styled body, two tone body finish, a capable engine, body-on-frame construction and sturdy mechanics, making for a true off-roader.

The great minivan Previa was Toyota’s attempt into the minivan market and although it was successful, it was discontinued in North America. In 1997, it was replaced with the Sienna we all know. The Previa continued to be sold in Europe until 2006 when it was killed off due to the popularity of small SUVs over minivans.
10). Toyota solara
One of the top auto production company, Toyota has finally made the decision to stop producing the Solara Convertible. It’s not likely to be missed. Although it was discontinued but Toyota decided to keep up it’s convertible production as there would be no other drop-top models in the company’s vehicle lineup.
It was due to poor sales in the midsize convertible market, that company won’t be restarting the production of its Camry Solara Convertible, which was last built in December 2008. According to Toyota ,the car will still be available in showrooms for at least the next two years.
