D-Link launched the first Wi-Fi 6 USB wireless network card

The new Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E solution has been in the news for multiple reasons in recent times. According to a recent report, D-Link has launched a USB Wi-Fi 6 adapter. This is the world’s first adapter that adds Wi-Fi 6 connectivity to your laptop. This device can be connected to a laptop or desktop computer. The official said that the adapter speed can reach 1200Mbps.

As of now, the target market for this D-Link product remains unclear. However, Wi-Fi 6 comes with a couple of benefits. Users can get a more efficient connection with routers as well as better network performance. In addition, Wi-Fi 6 devices also support more secure connections.

If the laptop or desktop computer you are using is recent, it is likely to support Wi-Fi 5. In terms of network speed, there is not much difference compared with this Wi-Fi 6 USB external network card. The adapter will be available in the second quarter of 2021 for $100.

Wi-Fi Alliance opens Wi-Fi 6E certification

The Wi-Fi Alliance announced the opening of Wi-Fi 6E device certification last week. This standard target’s devices that support 6GHz frequency band networks. As it is catching up with CES 2021, this certification will create conditions for the release of many new routers and mobile devices this year.

Compared with ordinary Wi-Fi 6, the Wi-Fi 6E network adds 6GHz frequency support. This frequency can provide more 160MHz bandwidth channels, thereby reducing interference and improving device network speed. In addition, Wi-Fi 6E can also enable devices to connect faster, more securely. Wi-Fi 6E certification also utilizes cutting-edge WPA3 security that continually evolves to address market needs. WPA3 now has a more robust password generation, mitigate additional attacks, and further protect and maintain privacy on Wi-Fi networks.

“Wi-Fi 6E will see rapid adoption in 2021 with more than 338 million devices entering the market, and nearly 20 percent of all Wi-Fi 6 device shipments supporting 6 GHz by 2022,” said Phil Solis, research director at IDC. “This year, we expect to see new Wi-Fi 6E chipsets from several companies, and a variety of new Wi-Fi 6E smartphones, PCs, and laptops in the first quarter of 2021 followed by TVs and VR product announcements midyear.”

“Worldwide interoperability for Wi-Fi 6E devices promotes rapid adoption and innovation in 6 GHz,” said Edgar Figueroa, president, and CEO, Wi-Fi Alliance. “Users will soon experience unprecedented Wi-Fi that significantly improves applications and delivers new use cases that will change their connected experiences.”

The likes of Broadcom, Intel, MaxLinear, MediaTek, ON Semiconductor, and Qualcomm were an integral part of its development. They are member companies that provide interoperability testbed devices for the first Wi-Fi 6E products.
