Right on cue, Huawei introduced its nova 8 series in China with a vanilla nova 8 and nova 8 Pro models. Both offer high refresh rate screens, Kirin 985 chipsets and quad 64MP cameras alongside 66W wired charging and 5G connectivity.
Huawei nova 8
The nova 8 brings a 90Hz curved 6.57-inch FHD+ OLED screen with a centered punch hole cutout for its 32MP selfie cam. There’s a fingerprint scanner tucked under the panel too while the speaker grill cutout is part of the top frame.
We have an elliptical camera island around the back with a 64MP primary sensor alongside an 8MP ultrawide snapper and two 2MP sensors for macro shots and depth data. The phone is powered by the Kirin 985 which debuted on the Honor 30 back in April. It’s joined by 8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage.
The software front is covered by Android 10 with EMUI 11 and Huawei’s HMS system. The battery comes in at 3,800 mAh and supports with 66W wired fast charging.
The nova 8 is available in silver, purple, green and black colors. It costs for CNY 3,299 ($505) in its 8/128GB trim while the 8/256GB variant goes for CNY 3,699 ($565). Huawei is already taking orders while official sales open on December 30. International availability was not detailed at this point.
Huawei nova 8 Pro
The nova 8 Pro comes with a larger 6.72-inch OLED with FHD+ resolution and bumps the refresh rate to 120Hz. Its panel is also curved and boasts 10bit color output which should translate into deeper and more saturated colors. There’s a primary 16MP selfie snapper in the pill-shaped cutout joined by a 32MP ultrawide module. The fingerprint scanner still resides under the screen.
Around the back, the quad camera setup is carried over from the nova 8. You do get a slightly larger 4,000 mAh battery and the same 66W fast charging. No change on the software side – it’s still EMUI 11 on top of Android 10 with Huawei’s HMS app ecosystem.
The nova 8 Pro comes in the same shades as the vanilla nova 8. Retail is set at CNY 3,999 ($611) for the 8/128GB version while the one with 256GB storage goes for CNY 4,399 ($672). Sales tip-off on December 30.
