Intel will make chips better than Apple’s PC chips

Yesterday, we reported that Intel officially announced that its CEO, Bob Swan, will be leaving office in February this year. He will be replaced by long-time Intel staff and former CTO, Pat Gelsinger. Although Gelsinger will not take office until next month, he is already making preparations. According to recent reports, Gelsinger’s target is Apple. He wants to make sure that Intel makes chips that are better than Apple’s PC chips.

According to a local newspaper in Oregon, Intel held a company meeting with all employees yesterday and Gelsinger attended the meeting. Gelsinger told Intel employees that Intel must provide the PC ecosystem with better products than Apple produces. Of course, he didn’t explicitly refer to Apple and called it a “lifestyle company” in Cupertino.

Gelsinger is a technology veteran

Gelsinger has been the CEO of VMware. He led the company’s transformation into a recognized global leader in cloud infrastructure, enterprise mobility, and network security company. Furthermore, he promoted the research and development of key technologies such as USB and Wi-Fi. He also led 14 different microprocessor programs. Since 2012, he has been the CEO of VMware, leading the company to almost triple its annual revenue.

Prior to joining VMware, Gelsinger served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Information Infrastructure Products at EMC. He was responsible for managing information storage, data computing, backup and recovery, RSA security, and enterprise solutions engineering design and operations. Before joining EMC, he worked at Intel for 30 years and became the first chief technology officer of the company. He is the architect of the 80,486 processor prototype, led the development of 14 different microprocessors, and played a key role in the success of the Core and Xeon product lines.

According to Omar Ishrak, Independent Chairman of Intel’s Board of Directors…”Pat is a proven technology leader with an outstanding track record in innovation, talent development, and in-depth knowledge of Intel. He will continue his values-based cultural leadership approach and focus on operational execution. After much deliberation, the board of directors concluded that it is the right time to change the leadership to take advantage of Pat’s technical and engineering expertise during the critical period of Intel’s transformation. The board is also confident that Pat and the other members of the leadership team will ensure the effective execution of Intel’s strategy, consolidate its product leadership, and take advantage of important future opportunities to continue its transformation from a CPU to a multi-architecture XPU company”.
