Meizu Watch gets 3C certified will have LTE connectivity

Meizu was once one of the most relevant smartphone makers in China. However, the company failed to build a solid global strategy like its fellows Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Huawei. The company lost its relevance due to the strong competition faced and also due to its poor software support that failed to meet global demands. Despite this, Meizu is still around with at least one flagship series per year. Last year, the brand announced the Meizu 17 series, and this year is moving on to release the Meizu 18 series. We still don’t know if the company is coming to global markets with full force, or if it will focus will be in the domestic market, but the company seems to be interested in bringing more than just smartphones. A new Meizu Smartwatch was spotted on 3C certification in China.

Meizu Watch

The first Meizu smartwatch was launched in 2016, however, it came as a hybrid product. Five years have passed, and Meizu never released a sequel for its Light Smartwatch. However, it seems that 2021 will be the year when the company will make its comeback in the wearable segment. Now, the company seems to be preparing a full-fledged smartwatch and it will come with cellular connectivity. Something that is not common among the smartwatches currently available in the market.

Meizu Watch coming with Flyme for Watch, LTE, and Square dial

The Meizu Watch appeared on the website of the China Quality Certification Centre (3C). The certificate shows that the smartwatch has model number M007W and comes with support for 7.5W (5v 1.5A) charging. It also has LTE support which certainly means a slot for a SIM card or an eSIM. With LTE, those purchasing the new smartwatch will not need to rely on the smartphone to receive calls. Users will also be able to connect to the internet to use apps and features that require an internet connection.

The new smartwatch will come with “Flyme for Watch”. As the name suggests, this is a special branch of the FlymeOS designed for smartwatches. A poster released for the operating system shows a smartwatch with a square face alongside a larger circle. Perhaps, Meizu is preparing a big entrance in the market with a square-faced watch and another one with a round dial. We expect the new smartwatches to launch alongside the new OS.

The new watch may come with competitive features such as an AMOLED display, heart rate tracking, SpO2 level measurement, and sports tracking. If you’re a global customer, don’t hold your breath just yet. After all, the Watch is coming for China and so far there is no indication of a global launch. Meizu lost the fight for its Chinese fellows several years ago, so we don’t see the company having great aspirations outside of its homeland.
