Microsoft just announced that more apps will arrive with the Microsoft Teams platform. The company is adding video conferencing capabilities, which some said it may be to challenge the Zoom video conferencing app. Yes, it appears that Microsoft is targeting conferencing platforms, hoping to cut its market share.
The Teams app is not doing badly since it has grown more than 50 percent in just about six months that it has been in existence. There are many users and it has been estimated that about 115 million users make use of the app on daily basis.
Microsoft is ready to make usage better by incorporating 20 other apps to the Teams platform. A few of these are Asana, Power Platform, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents. Some of these are functioning in the Teams environment. This move by Microsoft resembles that of Slack, which is seen in the Together Mode.
Together Mode option gives users the feel of being in a theatre instead of just seeing themselves in boxes. It offered a way to make meetings feel and look better during the pandemic. It is designed to attend to the needs of cognition, social perception, and communication.
It has a unique look, giving meeting attendees a more relaxed feeling. It is also believed that it makes attendees more attentive to one another, more friendly, and better focused on shared goals. Users are said to be less fatigued from frequent video meetings and they leave the meeting with a better sense of connection with others, having had effective meetings.
There is a good time and a bad time in which the Microsoft Teams may not be used. However, by adding 20 apps, some of the already perceived challenges will go away. Microsoft is targeting any business platforms it could as it continues to embrace functions that competitors already make use of. We can’t tell whether the company will go head-to-head with zoom in usage numbers and revenue.
