Today, Chen Ji, who serves as the General Manager of Lenovo China’s Mobile phone business teased the upcoming device. According to the teaser, the Motorola Edge S is coming soon and will boast a Snapdragon 8xx chipset. We’re in 2021 and most flagships will come with the Snapdragon 888. However, the fact that the company didn’t explicitly mention the chipset makes us believe that it could come with a Snapdragon 865 instead. Of course, the strategy of using old flagship SoCs never proved to be a successful one. Unless that it comes with a cheaper price tag like Realme made last year with its Realme X3 SuperZoom.
Motorola Edge S (Moto Nio) alleged specifications
Unfortunately, not many details are available about the new handset. Perhaps, it is the long-rumored Motorola Nio (model number XT2125). It has been spotted through several leaks in the past few months. According to the rumors, the Motorola Nio will sport the last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. This “flagship” will also sport a 6.7-inch panel with FHD+ resolution and a 105Hz refresh rate. Yeah, that’s not a common refresh rate. The device may come with a Triple-Camera setup sporting a 64MP primary shooter.
Previous rumors state that this 64MP sensor is the newly announced OmniVision OV64B sensor. Besides it, Motorola will bring a 16MP ultrawide angle camera (OV16A10) and a 2MP depth sensor. The display may have a pill-shaped cutout for a dual-camera setup. It will have a primary 8MP (Samsung S5K4H7) sensor and a 16MP ultrawide shooter from OmniVision.
The device’s chipset will be coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. However, a 12GB RAM with a 256GB Storage variant isn’t discarded. We just don’t know how a flagship with the last year’s flagship SoC can be appealing while many smartphones are set to ship with the newer Snapdragon 888 SoC. The device will run Android 11 straight out of the box.
