This Is How Your Water Resistant Phone keeps The Water Out
Having a smartphone that can take pictures in water or can survive after falling into your pot of soup might be really helpful especially if you spent a lot of money to get the device,it will save you the stress and money of getting a new one.
One thing most smartphone manufacturers fail to explain is that the phones are water resistant they are not waterproof,so after a certain amount of time under water your phone might get damaged due to water entering the circuit boards.
How your phone keeps the water out
To keep water out of your smartphone, most manufacturers use a lot of glue to create and airtight seal between the screen and the frame of the device.
So when an amount of adhesive is put under the display or glass back it helps to keep water out,you might be wondering how they manage to keep water from going in through the headphone jack, speakers or charging port, here’s how it’s done.
To keep water out of the charging port, phone manufacturers use a rubber seal around the edges to keep water from getting into the device.
Depending on the IP rating, there is a specific depth your device could go underwater but if you go below the specified depth, the water pushes the rubber seal and starts to penetrate into the device, hereby causing damage to the motherboard.
To keep the water out of the speakers, the manufacturers place a small screen behind the holes for the speakers, this screen allows sound to pass through but keeps water out,the water would rather stick to itself through cohesion than be pushed through the speaker, but just like the charging port of the water pressure gets too much,it will get into the device and the headphone jack has a similar rubber seal just like the charging port but they are sealed at the back to keep water out.
To keep water out of the sim tray and the power button,a similar type of rubber seal is used to prevent water but when the pressure gets too much, water could penetrate into the device.
When buying a water resistant smartphone,it is best to buy them as new ones not refurbished, because refurbished smartphones for not have the same glue that keeps the device airtight from the manufacturing process,so if the phone gets in contact with water,it might easily get damaged.
